Have you ever started at a new job or moved to a new city and felt butterflies in your stomach? Of course, you don't have to worry too much as there are no actual butterflies in your stomach, well hopefully there aren't. The sensation of butterflies in your stomach is caused by your body suddenly releasing adrenaline that leads to certain events occurring causing that sensation.

The first week is always difficult, the anxiety of making sure you don't make an embarrassing social gaffe in your introduction, trying to figure out your daily schedule and tasks from then on, and figuring out friend from foe, the last part may just be me.

The first week is the worst, but while it may be the worst it is also a great sign of you starting something new and exciting. There is a lot of stress and excitement but once you pass the first week your worries can begin to end. You have taken the first steps to something new. The first steps to new possibilites.

I have gone through many different fields in my education and my work career. I have previously studied law and life sciences; and for work, I have worked in construction, security, retail, cleaning, and sales. I would say I have a somewhat vast skill set, however, none of these jobs or what I studied seemed to resonate with me. Sometimes I would go to the nearby pond and sit and stare at the ducks wondering what I am doing. I decided to take a year off, save up some money and figure out what I want to do.

One day after work, a couple of months after I decided to take a year off, I was aimlessly browsing the internet and the Google Ads algorithm decided to endow me with an advertisement for an iOS development course on Udemy. I decided to do some research into it and after a little while decided there is no harm especially with the 30 days money-back guarantee. What I didn't know at the time was this was exactly what I was looking for, the reason I left school, and the first steps into what eventually would lead to my new career. I spent the first week planning out my schedule for how I will learn enough to publish an app. From my research, I learned that publishing on the iOS app store isn't something that is easy but most that have succeded have said it is something that does feel rewarding. I ended up deciding on spending 8 hours each weekend sitting at my desk going through the course. About two months after, I decided to make a small video game to deploy on the iOS App Store. About 4 months of hard work later, and multiple endless weekend nights of troubleshooting, I published my first app. This entire process took around 8 months and it was quite fun and different from my previous experiences. It was fun to create something new and put it out for the world to see. I realized I liked being creative.

Eventually, this Udemy course led me to decide to join a university for computer science, and for the last 2 years, I have studied computer science and game development. However, this last year I decided that I want to start working in the industry sooner so I started researching ways to speed up that process. Alot of it wasn't practical for my situation until I learned about boot-camps. After some calling and researching different boot-camps I ended up going with Juno College due to the good reviews I found online. Now in the boot-camp my plan for the next couple of months is to learn as much as I can and start building my network.

The first week of boot-camp was interesting as the process is very different from all my previous schoolings. Sitting at a desk for 8 hours and paying attention was something that I have never experienced before not even in secondary education. Usually, I go to school for a couple of hours for lectures and then go home and relearn everything discussed. This time I had to go to school for 8 hours and spend a couple of hours after class solidifying my notes. But while this last week has been hard and difficult I have already learned many new things and started developing new skills.

So my first week like all my first weeks always causes me to end up in a situation where…

but I am excited about the new possibilities.
